Job Information - Basketball Referee

ANNOUNCEMENT:

There will be a meeting for new officials to PSA who have experience officiating basketball on Monday, August 23, 8:00 PM at PSA on Preston Meadow Drive. We will NOT be conducting training for brand new officials until  October-November. This meeting will cover PSA rules, procedures, and scheduling. There is a $20 charge to become active with us for the Fall season only. This meeting will last approximately 90 minutes.


PSA Basketball 


PSA''s conducts basketball programs year round. This website has been created for the purpose of scheduling officials and providing information as to how to become an official with us.

The majority of training occurs prior to the Winter season, normally starting in October/November. During the other seasons though, we will bring on new officials on a case by case basis. 



The pay rates for officials are as follows:

  • $10 per game for those ages 15-18 to work younger grades, first time officials
  • $14 per game for adults with no experience
  • $15-$19 per game for adults with experience
All officials are paid for performance. If you prove yourself and show that you can contribute to PSA's basketball program, you will be moved up the pay scale quickly. The key attributes for successful referees (and to move up the pay scale!) are as follows:
  • Good understanding of the rules of the game
  • The ability to control the game by enforcing the rules
  • The ability to work well with the players and coaches and display professionalism on the court
  • Being dependable; working games as scheduled, being flexible to work as needed
